Smt. Gladys Kothavala

Smt. Gladys Kothavala, born in the USA, first came to India as a librarian to work at USIS (United States Information Service) in 1950. After working in Hyderabad USIS office for a couple of years, she settled in Mumbai after marrying Mr. Arsasp Kothavala. She was an active member of the Maharashtra State Women’s Council and ran several balwadis for the working women’s children in New Mumbai that was being developed at that time.

 

She was one of the founders of theBombayInternationalSchool. Several years after founding and running the school, she was requested by Dr. Madhuri Shaha, the Education Officer of Mumbai Municipal Corporation to help at the English medium schools run by BMC. Smt. Kothavala helped with the conversation classes and the supplementary classes for 6-7 years.

 

Smt. Kothavala is a choir singer and has been a member of the Pune choir society. She also used to sing for the Bombay Symphony Orchestra. She has been a close friend of Kamalabai Nimbkar and a member of the Governing Council of Pragat Shikshan Sanstha.
