Shri. Jagjeevan Garwaliya

Shri. Jagjeevan Garwalia, was born and had his schooling in Karachi. The family left Karachi after independence and went back to their native village of Khomdi in Naktarna taluka of Kachchh, Gujrat. In 1958 the 23 year old youth migrated to Phaltan to look after the saw mill bought by the family. However, it was soon sold and Shri. Garwalia started his family business of furniture making in 1959. His was the first large furniture business in Phaltan, Man and Khatao talukas of Satara district. He built furniture for almost all the large schools in these talukas and many times was paid only after a couple of years when the government grant arrived.

 

He became the president of the Phaltan Lions Club in 1984. One of the major activities he started and continued to run for 16 years through aegis the Lions Club was eye camps. Dr. M. C. Modi performed 400-500 eye operations for free every year and the Lions Club took care of all other expenses from medicines to food. Shri Garwalia was part of the group that was instrumental in establishing a Lions eye hospital with the help of Lions International Club and Miraj Eye Hospital in 1999.

 

Shri Garwalia is the chairman of Maljai Mandir Devasthan Trust and a trustee of the Ughada Maruti Mandir. He is one of the founder members of Pragat Shikshan Sanstha, a member of the Governing Council of Phaltan Education Society and a member of Mahatma Education Society. He is a greatly respected and trusted personality in Phaltan.
