From 1970 to 1982 Maxine Berntsen and Jai Nimbkar worked together to produce two sets of Marathi materials for adult learners. The first set, which was published in 1975, included the following books:
An Intermediate Marathi Reader, Parts 1 and 2 An Advanced Marathi Reader, Parts 1 and 2A Basic Marathi-English Dictionary
A Marathi Reference Grammar
The project was financed by the U.S. Office of Education through a contract with the University of Pennsylvania. It was administered in India by the American Institute of Indian Studies, and the research was conducted under the auspices of the Deccan College, Pune.
The second set of materials included the following books:
This set of materials was completed in 1982 and was published by the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS). Later the set was republished in India by Granthali.
